Features At A Glance
Remington HC5550 Precision Power haircut and beard trimmer is designed to help men stay neat and well groomed without spending hundreds of dollars a year visiting their barber. Features of this haircut and beard trimmer include:
- Pro power motor.
- Self sharpening titanium coated blades.
- Easy to click off combs so washing them is easy.
- Can be used with or without cord.
- USB charger cable makes this trimmer easy to take on the road.
- Rubberized grip.
- The HC5550 is twice as fast as previous Remington trimmers.
- Comes with 2 adjustable combs that have 15 locking lengths.
- Bonus stubble grooming attachment is also included.
Hair Length Settings & Combs
HC5550 comes with 2 attachments guards which can be adjusted to 15 length settings. In addition to that, it also comes with a stubble comb.
The stubble comb gives you a cut of 1.5mm ( about ½ inch ) which is suitable for most people but not all. Some of you might be maintaining a much shorter shadow look stubble for which you will need it to cut down to 0.5mm to 1mm. Unfortunately, this trimmer would not do that for you.
You have the option to trim without any guard but that will give you a much shorter length ( about 0.2mm). For those who have a dense beard, this length can still give you a shadow look.
It can also be sued for normal shaving as the blades are quite sharp but it will not give you a shave as close as a shaver or a safety razor would.
It is important to mention here that the combs are quite fragile in quality. They would not last long in the hands of a heavy handed person. It is advisable to use them carefully, especially in the beginning until you get enough practice to attach and remove them.
You get a wide choice of lengths and best is to start with the higher length and move down gradually till you find your preferred size.
Blades, Cleaning & Maintenance
It has self-sharpening blades so no worries on the maintenance and oiling. The titanium coated blades give you a fine smooth cut without any hair pulling.
Lots of users have reported that the blades are quite sharp which is great but if you are not used to handling trimmers and apply extra pressure, it can give you small nicks.
Cleaning is very easy as it is washable under tap. So, no messing around with a tiny brush to clean the blades. However, the manual tells you that you must not submerge it in the water.
Battery, Power & Cord
It operates cordless which is very convenient. Still, some users have felt that the power without the cord is not sufficient to get a good trim. It also depends on the coarseness and length of hair one is trying to trim.
The battery holds the charge well and gives you a run time of 40 minutes.
A minor negative is that the charging lights do not go off or change color when the trimmer is fully charged. I usually let it charge at night, so it´s ready for me in the morning.
It works on 120V only, which can cause a problem for some but the company has solved this issue by providing you with a USB charge facility. So, if you are traveling, you don´t even need to take the charger.

The attachments are of poor quality, so they do require gentle handling but consider the fact that at this price the trimmer will pay for itself even if you save one trip to the hairdresser.
If you do decide to get this trimmer, bear in mind that the manual that comes with your Remington HC5550 is designed for several of the Remington clippers and trimmers and will mention attachments that do not come with the HC5550.
